New Jersey License Plate County & Courtesy Plate Codes: 1959-Present

Unlike the county codes used from 1938 until 1958 these county codes were not used on regular passenger plates. These codes are used only on on state senator, county officer, mayor plates and courtesy plates.

Courtesy plates are issued to motorists only with the approval of a state senator from the county from by the first letter on the plate. Plates beginning with the letter T can be approved by any senator. The numbers on the plate are only between 1 and 20, but additional plates with the same number, such as the one below, have small suffix numbers . Plates typically are issued on the standard passenger base, but can also be found on optional plates.
