Plate of the Week: 2002 Center for Food Action

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

2002 Center for Food Action In our last installment of Plate of the Week we looked at at 1991 vanity plates. This week we take a look at the short lived organizational plate from The Center for Food Action.

The plates to support the anti-hunger group made their debut in 2002, but they weren’t big sellers. Only a handful of the 500 sets produced actually made it on the road.

The plate pictured is an unused example, as are most plates you will find in the collectors market.

The incredibly lackluster sales may make this the worst selling optional plate of any kind in North America.

Good luck spotting one in the wild, as they are one of the rarest New Jersey types theoretically on the road today.

If you have a plate you would like featured as a Plate of the Week, please contact us or put a photo of the plate in our flickr group and drop us a line.

Plate of the Week: 1991 Vanity Plate

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

1991 ALPCA Vanity Plate Welcome to the first installment of the ALPCA Garden State Region’s Plate of the Week. Each Wednesday we’ll be highlighting a noteworthy license plate from the Garden State. If you have a plate you would like featured, please contact us or put a photo of the plate in our flickr group and drop us a line.

This might look like a typical 1979 base vanity plate, but it is one of a short lived series of plates issued between 1991 and 1992.

In 1991, the state allowed for 7 character vanity plates. These plates used the narrower dies designed for the seven character ABC1234 format plates introduced the next year. All vanity plates, regardless of the amount of characters, used the dies. However, no other types of plates on the 1979 base used the dies.

You can see the difference between the older wider dies and the later narrower dies below.
